FAQs

  • What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care is a practice and payment model where patients pay their physician directly in the form of a flat monthly or annual fee, under terms of an agreement, for a defined set of primary care services. This model replaces the traditional system of third party insurance coverage for primary care services.

  • Do you accept health insurance?

Ilka Y. Nazario, MD does not accept any health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.

  • Should I still have insurance if I am a member?

We recommend you to obtain health insurance that will cover catastrophic care and other services not included on the Agreement of Membership.

  • Is Direct Primary Care Insurance?

No. The monthly service fee is your payment for ongoing primary care services offered by your physician. We strongly recommend that patients do have insurance for care that may be needed beyond what we offer.

  • How long is the Membership Agreement?

The Agreement will last for 1 year and renews automatically each year on the anniversary date it was signed. You or Ilka Y. Nazario, MD may cancel the agreement by giving 30 days written notice.

  • What is your policy on controlled substances?

Ilka Nazario, MD believes that controlled substances, both narcotics and benzodiazepines, have a limited role in primary care and therefore these medications are rarely prescribed. Chronic pain requiring narcotics is best managed by a pain management specialist, but we are happy to work with you on non-narcotic options for your pain and to manage your other medical conditions. We do not treat anxiety with benzodiazepines, but offer other medications and techniques often successful in treating anxiety.

  • Family Planning?

Dr. Nazario does not prescribe contraception/birth control, or refer for sterilization or abortion, but can assist with referrals to specialists in fertility-awareness based methods of family planning.
